Book Repair

Assessing Items for Book Repair

Librarians who notice a book is damaged can route it to the Technical Services Assistant for evaluation.

An item should go to book repair when a patron might be dissuaded or unable to use it because of its condition. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Ripped or falling out pages
  • Torn endsheets
  • Broken spine

After receiving the item the Technical Services Specialist will determine if an item should be repaired, replaced, or discarded.

Placing an Item on Repair Status

  1. Go to Fulfillment > Resource Requests > Scan In Items
  2. Set “Work Order Type” to Book Repair. Keep “Set Status To” as Repair.
  3. Scan in each item that needs to go on repair in the “Scan item barcode” field.
  4. Place item on incoming book repair shelf in the second floor staff area.

Manage Book Repair Items

  1. Go to Fulfillment > Resource Requests > Monitor Requests & Items Processes
  2. In the Facets section, narrow to Book Repair under Request/Process Type
