When we can’t find a book on GOBI we must go to other vendors. As with any purchasing, we need to make an effort to purchase items from a SWAM vendor or at least receive a quote from a SWAM vendor to prove we made an attempt to purchase from them before going to a non-SWAM vendor. In most of our cases though, there are exceptions that make it so we do not need to receive a quote before purchasing from a non-SWAM vendor.
When buying used items, in our case books and DVDs, we do not need a quote from a SWAM vendor. So go on Amazon to find a USED copy that is in good condition. This exception is SPP B13.
It’s also important to remember that UMW does NOT pay taxes on purchases. If you find a copy on Amazon, you’ll need to make an Amazon Business account and upload the UMW tax exempt form once a year. You’ll also need to wait until Amazon approves the document before purchasing. If you do pay taxes, YOU WILL NEED TO PAY OUT OF YOUR OWN POCKET TO UMW IF YOU CANNOT GET THE REFUND.

At Amazon, your card is charged once the item is shipped, not when you make the order. Once it’s been shipped you can go to the order page to download the PRINTABLE ORDER SUMMARY and the PACKING SLIP. These documents are not shipped with the item, they are only available electronically. After purchasing, you will create a confirming order on eVA.
If there are only new copies on Amazon, you will need a quote from one of the SWAM vendors before you purchase the book from Amazon. (I use Alran, rarely Prince Books)

They will get back to you with a quote which includes the total price if they have it. Sometimes they will try to buy it for you from somewhere else, like ebay, but that includes a surcharge of that outsourcing service. So, ask if they have it in their stock. If they do send a quote and if their total price is at least 5% higher than Amazon, you can purchase it from Amazon. If not, you’ll need to purchase it from the SWAM Vendor.
Print out all these email correspondence and quotes, even if you end up purchasing from Amazon. We need to show that we made an effort to buy from a SWAM vendor.
If you end up purchasing from Amazon, you can follow the same steps as if you were purchasing a used title.
If you purchased from Alran, they would send the book in the mail. Once you receive the book, you’ll have to call and give your credit card information over the phone.
Whichever way you purchased you’ll need to create a confirming order on eVA.
