Deciding what to withdraw

Removing small numbers of items

Often, library staff will notice through browsing or utilizing items that there are items that should be withdrawn.  Take the following steps to have those items removed from the collection:

  1. After pulling items from shelves all items being withdrawn should be brought to Collection Maintenance Supervisor.
  2. On a weeding slip at minimum please include:
    1. Reason for withdrawal: e.g. Newer edition is available, Material out-of-date, better sources available in collection, etc.
    2. Your name
  3. Place any items to be withdrawn, with its weeding slip(s) on cart of "Discards" located in the Collection Maintenance Supervisor office.

Staff weeding

From time to time, library staff will be evaluating the materials in their specialty in order to determine if new materials should be added or old materials should be withdrawn.
