Collection Services Student Assistant

Position Description

The Collection Services Student Assistant supports the daily operations and organization of the library’s collections by working closely with the Metadata & Collections Division. Responsibilities include stamping and sorting materials, preparing assessment lists for government documents, shelving collection items, and retrieving materials designated for withdrawal. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Position Duties

  • Stamping and sorting of physical materials.
  • Preparing lists and documentation of materials for review and evaluation.
  • Pulling material for analysis, searching for missing books, and withdrawing material in accordance with library retention policies.
  • Checking in and/or shelving periodical, microfim, and microfiche materials.
  • Assisting with inventory projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Meet the qualifications listed on the UMW Student Employment website
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently
  • Must have at least a 2.0 CGPA
