This guide summarizes the different types of student jobs available at Simpson Library.

Access Services (Circulation) Student Assistant

 

Position Basics

Work Hours Monday - Thursday: 8 am - 10 pm
Friday: 8 am - 5 pm
Saturday: Noon - 6 pm
Sunday: 1 pm - 10 pm
Weekend Shifts Included? Yes
Hours per Week An average of 10-15 hours each week
Public Services? Yes
Same Schedule each Week? Yes

Position Duties

  • Assist patrons at the Circulation Desk and the Library Desk in the Hurley Convergence Center (HCC)
  • Check library materials and equipment in and out
  • Assist patrons with computers, scanners, printers, copiers, etc.
  • Assist patrons with reserve materials and other special materials
  • Shelve books & periodicals
  • Answer directional or other questions and give information
  • Inventory
  • Special Projects which may include social media, dusting, shifting, searching for missing items, etc

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Meet the UMW Office of Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Patient, friendly, and able to multi-task
  • Dependability
  • Must have at least 2.0 GPA
  • Be able to pick up, transfer, move objects 5-10lbs on a daily basis.
