Social Media and Marketing Student Assistant

 

Position Basics

Work Hours Monday - Thursday: 8 am - 10 pm
Friday: 8 am - 5 pm
Saturday: Noon - 6 pm
Sunday: 1 pm - 10 pm

General Description

The Social Media and Marketing Student Assistant will collaborate with staff in the creation and management of social media and other marketing efforts for Simpson Library. This will include creating content across multiple platforms, researching social media trends, evaluating engagement, and maintaining a digital calendar for the scheduling and posting of content. They will also participate in the planning and execution of special projects such as displays, fundraising campaigns, and collaborative efforts with other UMW departments. Secondary duties of this position will include assisting patrons at the Circulation Desk and HCC Information Desk, shelving books and periodicals, and other functions of the Access Services Department. Work shifts are scheduled in 2-hour long blocks at a time and can be structured around classes and other commitments.

 

Position Duties

 Primary Duties (80% of job):

  • Create social media content for Simpson Library across multiple platforms
  • Maintain a digital calendar for scheduling and posting of content
  • Stay up-to-date on current social media trends
  • Perform research on what will make Simpson Library and its services more visible to students
  • Evaluate the engagement social media content receives across multiple platforms
  • Special projects, such as yearly advertising for Mary Wash Day, Great Lives lecture series, assisting with display development and advertising, etc.

 Secondary Duties (20% of job): 

  • Assist patrons at the Simpson Library Circulation Desk and the Hurley Convergence Center (HCC) Information Desk
  • Check library materials and equipment in and out - Assist patrons with reserve materials or other special materials
  • Assist patrons with technology including scanners, computers, printer/copiers, and other equipment
  • Shelve books and periodicals - Answer directional or other questions and give information
  • Inventory
  • Special projects, which may include digital archives, shifting, searching for missing items, etc.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Meet the UMW Office of Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Patient, friendly, and able to multi-task
  • Dependability
  • Must have at least 2.0 GPA
  • Be able to pick up, transfer, move objects 5-10lbs on a daily basis.
