Digital Fluency

Introduces the concept of Digital Fluency.

Creating and Sharing New Information

All of us at UMW are taking part in the great scholarly conversation.  One of your goals as a student is to make your own contribution to that conversation – to use the knowledge you gain from others to say something new, something that adds your thoughts to the conversation.  Every project isn’t a research paper.  Think about the most effective way to present the information you have found.  Perhaps an infographic or a meme will do the best job of getting your point across.  Or maybe you need to create a blog post that your fellow students will comment on. By being a digitally fluent student, you will be able to use digital tools to clearly communicate your ideas and collaborate with others.

Speaking and Writing Center

The Speaking and Writing Center can help you . . .

  • Brainstorm a paper topic
  • Review a paper in progress
  • Help create accurate citations
  • Understand and learn to detect grammar problems
  • Eliminate punctuation errors
  • Help develop a presentation
  • Help you rehearse a presentation

Digital Knowledge Center

The Digital Knowledge Center provides peer tutoring to all University students on digital projects and assignments. Students can schedule one-on-one or small group tutorials with a trained peer tutor on a variety of subjects relating to common systems, technologies, and tools used in courses at UMW. Students interested in sitting down with a tutor to discuss an extra-curricular project are also welcome to schedule appointments.
