University Records Management: Transferring Records

Transferring Records

Records from various offices and departments across UMW may be eligible for a transfer to University Archives. Any office with potentially eligible records should contact University Records Management in advance. Special Collections and University Archives will review all transfer requests to determine whether the records require permanent retention or otherwise have enduring historical value. If your office believes you have records that should transfer to the University Archives, please contact Special Collections and University staff at archives@umw.edu.

Special Collections and University Archives currently handles the transfer of permanent electronic records on a case by case basis. The Library of Virginia provides general electronic records guidelines for basic understanding of the procedures surrounding the nature, retention, and disposition of electronic records for all agencies of the Commonwealth.
