Frequently Asked Questions

Eagle Scholar is an institutional repository that provides access to scholarship, publications, and creative works of the University of Mary Washington community. It includes work created by faculty, staff, and students. The repository is publicly accessible, and is an excellent way to showcase your project to employers, family, and friends. In addition, online access will increase the availability of your work to other scholars in your research area.

The deadline for the submission of departmental honors projects is the Friday of Finals Week. If you and your faculty project advisor decide that you need more time, please email archives@umw.edu and CC your advisor to let us know.

Digital projects should be submitted using the same electronic submission form on Eagle Scholar. Instead of uploading a document at the end of the form, you'll submit your website URL in the relevant form field. Special Collections & University Archives uses web archiving tools (created and hosted by the Internet Archive) to archive your website, and adds the archived URL link to your project's page in Eagle Scholar. Web archiving tools unfortunately aren't perfect, though, and occasionally miss media files and/or dynamic content like TimelineJS and Google Maps. If you have questions about the web archiving process, please contact archives@umw.edu.

Here are some examples of projects that included archived websites:

Yes! There is an option to add additional files at the end of the electronic submission form.

Departmental honors requirements vary by department, and while students are generally expected to submit their projects to the Library, the Library doesn't prevent students from receiving departmental honors if a project is not received. In collaboration with their faculty advisor, some students have decided not to publish projects due to plans for later publication and a variety of other reasons. If you decide not to submit your project to Eagle Scholar for publication, please contact archives@umw.edu and CC your faculty project advisor. Otherwise, Library staff contact departments following the submission deadline to request reminders be sent to students who haven't submitted projects.
