In Simpson Library, find overviews in the Reference section on the first floor. I recommend these Reference books:

Encyclopaedia of Islam, Second Edition

Publication Date: 1954–2005
The second edition is a complete set, and the articles are longer than the articles in the third edition, but it's somewhat outdated.

Article titles are (mostly) in Arabic, Persian, or Turkish.

The Index volume contains:
- A list of entries with English titles
- An index of subjects other than individual people
- A glossary of Arabic, Persian, and Turkish words
- An index of individual people as subjects
Encyclopaedia of Islam, Third Edition
Call Number: REFB DS37 .E523
Publication Date: 2007-present (new volumes still being published)
The third edition is not yet complete, and has shorter articles, but the articles are up to date.

Article titles are (mostly) in English.

A small two-volume encyclopedia. Entries are about broad topics such as “Sports” or “Theatre.”
