All students seeking Departmental Honors must submit an electronic copy of their paper and complete the online Submission Form and License by the last day of Finals Week. This guide will help you navigate the process of submitting your departmental honors paper or project to UMW's open access institutional repository, Eagle Scholar. We've provided step-by-step written instructions, a video guide, and an FAQ section to help with any questions you may have during the process.
The deadline for the submission of departmental honors projects is the Friday of Finals Week. In 2023, the deadline date will be Friday, April 28. If you and your faculty project advisor decide that you need more time, please email email@example.com and CC your advisor to let us know.
Digital projects should be submitted using the same electronic submission form on Eagle Scholar. Instead of uploading a document at the end of the form, you'll submit your website URL in the relevant form field. Special Collections & University Archives uses web archiving tools (created and hosted by the Internet Archive) to archive your website, and adds the archived URL link to your project's page in Eagle Scholar. Web archiving tools unfortunately aren't perfect, though, and occasionally miss media files and/or dynamic content like TimelineJS and Google Maps. If you have questions about the web archiving process, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here are some examples of projects that included archived websites:
Yes! There is an option to add additional files at the end of the electronic submission form.
Departmental honors requirements vary by department, and while students are generally expected to submit their projects to the Library, the Library doesn't prevent students from receiving departmental honors if a project is not received. In collaboration with their faculty advisor, some students have decided not to publish projects due to plans for later publication and a variety of other reasons. If you decide not to submit your project to Eagle Scholar for publication, please contact email@example.com and CC your faculty project advisor. Otherwise, Library staff contact departments following the submission deadline to request reminders be sent to students who haven't submitted projects.
If you have any questions that are not answered by this guide, please contact UMW Special Collections and University Archives at firstname.lastname@example.org.
